Frequently Asked Questions

What is Field?

Field is an embeddable AI chat that makes your athletic department's history queryable in plain language. Fans, alumni, reporters, and recruits ask anything — about any program, any season, any record — and Field answers from your verified data. Every number in Field's answers traces to a verified record — the model writes the explanation, your records supply the statistics.

What kind of data does Field need to get started?

A spreadsheet or CSV export is enough. Season summaries, rosters, game results — whatever format your records are in, we structure them. Most athletic departments already have this data; it just lives across multiple files, sources, or years that have never been brought together.

How long does setup take?

We handle the data structuring, the embed configuration, and the testing. Most departments are up in about a week — all you need to contribute is the data and a single line of code on your site.

Does Field replace our existing athletic website?

No. Field is an embed — one line of code that drops into your site, wherever you want it. It works alongside whatever CMS or platform you're using.

What happens to our data?

Your data stays your data. Field operates as a processor, not an owner. We never use customer data to train AI models, never share it with other customers, never repurpose it. If you end your subscription, we delete your data from Field's systems.

How does Field handle student-athlete information?

Field works with statistical performance data — wins, goals, save percentages, records. This is generally considered "directory information" under FERPA and is information your department already publishes. We work with each institution to confirm what data is appropriate to ingest and respect any restrictions you set.

What does Field cost?

Field is priced for institutional access — a single athletic department subscription that covers every program, every sport, every audience. Specific pricing depends on the scope of your dataset and the level of customization. Reach out and we'll talk through what makes sense for your department.

Can we customize how Field sounds?

Yes. We work with each institution to capture the voice, context, and character that should shape how your history is told. Field doesn't just answer with stats — it answers in your institution's voice.

What if Field gets something wrong?

Field is built so that getting something wrong is structurally difficult — every statistic in an answer traces to a verified record, and the system is designed to say it can't answer rather than guess when it can't answer reliably. If you ever spot an error, we want to know. We treat accuracy as a foundational requirement, not a feature.

What happens when Field doesn't have the answer?

Field says so. Every answer is grounded in a verified query against your records — if your data doesn't cover a question, Field tells the visitor exactly what it can and can't answer, scoped to the years on file. It never fills gaps with guesses. If per-player records start in 2011, 'all-time leading scorer' is answered as the leader in records since 2011 — clearly labeled, never overstated.

Who's behind Field?

Field was built by Levi Lowell, a creative director and AI builder based in Minnesota. The project started from a personal connection to small-college athletics — the realization that the football team's history always finds its way into the public record, while the women's golf program that won three conference titles in the nineties disappears. Field exists because every program deserves to be remembered with the same care.
